Action 21 need your help!

The Dobson Lane Allotments

Ground Clearance Work Party

Friday 25th September, 9 am – 4.30 pm

Work is finally starting to happen on Action 21's Allotment Restoration project at Dobson Lane! We need your help, in clearing the brambles and debris on site - this is in preparation for getting the land ploughed and then plotted out into allotments.

It should be a fun day and a good chance to find out about the vision for the allotment development and you'll also be able to register your interest in an allotment.

Hot drinks will be available throughout the day and a lunch for those who volunteer for the whole day. Please wear old work clothes with long sleeves, long trousers and sturdy footwear. If you have tools such as loppers, rakes and gloves then please bring these along too.

Please note that the allotment site is right at the end of Dobson Lane, adjacent to the cemetery. If you'd like to help out and/or have any questions about the day please contact Amy Footer the Volunteer Development Worker on 01926 456 072 or amy@action21.co.uk or if you have any general questions about the project then please speak to Rick on 01926 456067 or rick@action21.co.uk

Save The Planet With Fake Trees?

I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st when I came across this newspaper article in the Daily Mail. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers are suggesting we use fake trees to soak up CO2 emissions. Apparently real trees aren't efficient enough......

350.org - In every corner of the globe...

I found this video today from 350.org which is promoting an International Day of Climate Action on 24th October 2009. The 350 refers to 350 parts per million of carbon in the atmosphere. NASA’s James Hansen and other climatologists believe this is the safe level beyond which we will see devastating damage done to our planet.

Wonky Fruit & Veg

The European Commission has scrapped regulations that prevented the sale of misshapen fruit and vegetables. This is good news for the environment because up to 20% of fruit and vegetables have previously been rejected. The big supermarkets say that their customers like their carrots to be shapely and won't buy ones that are deformed.
